Fiona Workman is an intuitive nutritionist and Bowen therapist. She is passionate about enjoying both food and life, but she is also realistic about the pressures of fast city life.
As an independent practitioner, Fiona is not obliged to advocate any particular brands or eating styles. She doesn't sell supplements, products or eating plans, so her advice is unbiased and appropriate for you. Fiona accesses your non-verbal needs to treat deeper aspects of your psyche and physiology.
Qualifications and background Fiona Workman holds a Bachelor degree in Health Science (CSU), a Diploma of Nutrition (NCC), and a Bachelor degree in Commerce (UNSW). She is a Professional Member of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society and the Bowen Association of Australia.
Fiona's interest in complementary medicine followed the sudden death of a close family member from a heart attack, despite ongoing treatment from a medical doctor. Convinced that there had to be more to preventing disease than just pharmaceutical drugs, Fiona studied nutrition and its effect on health.
After many years of helping clients return their bodies to health through Western nutrition, Fiona occasionally found a client who didn't respond. Searching deeper into food-based modalities, Fiona discovered Ayurveda. This ancient Indian medicine perfectly complements modern dietary advice, with an emphasis on spices, specific flavours and herbs to stimulate digestion and create easy lifestyle changes.
Nutritional services Fiona uses the attributes of particular foods to naturally and gently improve the wellbeing of her clients. Her advice is practical and down-to-earth, delivered with care to every client. There are no bitter herbal formulas to take and no calorie counting; just ingredient adjustments and limited supplements if necessary.
Clients are assessed according to Western nutritional practices, Ayurvedic elements, body type and personal needs. Treatments may be recommended to address underlying emotional issues associated with illness. Together with lifestyle changes and gentle exercises, Fiona offers a holistic approach to better health.
Over the years Fiona has had ample success with improving energy levels, alleviating symptoms of inflammatory '~itis' conditions, fine-tuning cholesterol/fat profiles, and weight management. If you have never had a dietary check-up, now is the time.
So why visit Sydney Nutrition? At your first visit, you will spend up to an hour and a half discussing your current symptoms, lifestyle, medical history and goals. This gives Fiona a good understanding of you as an individual - much more than could be achieved from a 15 minute GP appointment.
Other practitioners may hand you a standard diet sheet. Fiona writes your report specifically for you: no off-the-shelf plans and no generic advice, which is why Fiona sees a limited number of clients each week. You are treated individually with all notes written just for you.
In the past few decades, the 'normal' range in routine pathology results has expanded, reflecting the largely unhealthy general public. In the short time most GPs have to see their clients, it is difficult for them to completely assess their requirements, goals and pathology. By taking the time to fully evaluate a client, Fiona can make the difference between feeling average and feeling great.
For example, a young executive recently came to Fiona feeling constantly exhausted. Her family GP took blood samples and since all results were normal, she was given no treatment but was recommended to quit work. On closer inspection, she was in the lowest range of 'normal' for transferrin, TIBC and haemoglobin, indicating borderline iron-deficient anaemia. Combined with her exercise program and stressful lifestyle, low iron levels greatly affected her daily energy.
Nutritional Consultations Your first visit up to 90 minutes comprises symptom analysis, medical history and suggested dietary and lifestyle corrections forming the foundation of future work. At the second consultation, usually three to four weeks later, Fiona may supply you with individually tailored:
- ingredient recommendations
- flexible menu plans
- recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner
- product samples
- starter ingredients
- shopping list
- tried and trusted referrals
- easy lifestyle changes as relevant.
A third session is scheduled in four to six months to allow for finetuning, monitoring of symptoms and guidance for changing previously-established bad habits. If preferred, these two visits include bodywork in her Cammeray clinic to facilitate deeper shifts for long-term benefits.
Consultations cost $90 each. Sessions are health fund registered under 'Nutritionist'. Unfortunately Medicare does not cover the services of a Nutritionist.
Please bring an honest record of a week's usual eating habits including indigestion symptoms, bowel regularity, measured daily water intake and recent pathology results if available. Please note any stong likes/dislikes and cravings.
Every recipe has been personally tested by Fiona for ease of preparation, health benefits and flavour. By providing you with an understanding of these changes, Fiona gives you an education in food, rather than a strict eating plan to follow.

Weight loss Losing weight need not dictate who you share a meal with or impinge on your social life. You don't have to feel hungry and you don't have to buy weight loss products to lose weight. Losing weight is as much how you eat and when you eat as it is what you eat.
Following fad diets is unnatural for your body, which usually reacts by depressing your metabolic rate, making weight loss even harder. Following Fiona's tips and shortcuts, on the other hand, will help you lose weight safely. It may not happen as quickly as other programs, but it is safer for your body and you'll be able to keep it off. Generic diets don't suit everyone, so why not find out what will work for you?
Personal sessions are $90. Face-to-face sessions are recommended every four weeks and include dietary advice, a weigh-in, measurements, new recipes, samples and tastings, and a check on your energy levels and moods. Body therapies are conducted at Cammeray to access emotional causes of weight problems. |
